Assisted Reality War

Are we really sure we want to go down this road? To take the arms competition into AR, even as we rely more and more on AI, and algorithms we don't necessarily understand all that well?

If we don't find a way to negotiate our way out of all of these dangerous competitions we are in we are thrice doomed (after the ice at the poles melts, and too many people on the planet). And let's be clear here. One of the biggest impediments we have here is the initial competitive dynamic of Capitalism itself; because of it do we first get the competition for not only resources, now, but of markets; their access, and the relative dominance of same, the various competitors have. And that's without even beginning to discuss the specific dynamics of what is implied in the term "Military Industrial Complex;" and what it represents not only in livelihoods that are dependant on it (did we buy that weapon because it was the best for the job, or because the company that built it had the best lobbyists, and the production spread out to the most states for conspicuously good jobs, in most cases), but also because of the profits, world wide, that such things can generate.

Too many bad incentives to do really unhelpful things. That's what one is involved in, at its core, with the profit driven, competitive dynamic of Capitalism, in this electrified age. At least if you have good reason to believe that cooperation, on an unprecedented scale, is the only thing that will allow us to engage in the tremendous undertaking of keeping this planet alive. Which will mean building infrastructure like humans have never been coordinated in doing in our sad, tribal, history. But that's the point. This new operating environment requires us to grow up. To become what we need to become to pivot the path of human affairs into an at least 90% shift in direction; moving away from the economics of scarcity and applying new instrumentality to the advantage of all working people.

It really shouldn't be that hard of a concept to understand; the undertaking, of course, being another matter altogether. Hard most especially because we will have to engage with each other on a much more direct, and meaningfully connected way. That's also why it has to be a redefinition of work, because work and community life have to become one and the same thing; so we can support, and govern ourselves in a properly balanced way.

You ignore this at your peril, and the clock is ticking.
